What Constitution?

What happened to our Constitution? The powers granted to Congress and the President are very limited, yet both have abused their power to the point it is becoming intolerable. Our founders were very clear about the role of the government, but over the years politicians, with the help of the courts, have slowly taken power away from the states and given it to themselves. For example Congress was given 18 limited powers in the Constitution. In those powers you will read nothing giving them the ability to enact a national drinking age, being involved in the way a war is fought, national health care, national drug laws. etc. Everyday we hear of new abuses.

The President is not immune either. He is guilty of meddling in issues that should be left to the states and for basically trashing the Constitution with the Patriot Act. Our founders would be telling us to stand up and rebel against this. The anti-Federalist like Thomas Jefferson knew that if the government stopped following the Constitution the end result would be disaster.

It is always interesting to see Congress and the President stand on the Constitution yet subvert it every chance they get. Unfortunately most American’s see the Constitution as an old piece of paper, and only know parts of it from watching “Schoolhouse Rock.”

We need to get ourselves familiar once again with the founding document and require our politician’s to follow it.
