Are Cheap Prices Worth The Risk?
Published by The Tampa Pirate May 6th, 2007 in Crime, Government, Health, TerrorismA couple of months ago dog and cat food manufacturers were pulling contaminated products off store shelves faster than Ted Kennedy drinks a Tom Collins. The reason animals were dying as a result of their pet food lines. After the initial MSM induced hysteria ended the investigation on the cause began. The results of the investigation have gone almost unnoticed without much attention. I believe the MSM were too busy debating the Imus debacle to take notice. So what was the culprit? Wheat Gluten. Not just any wheat gluten, wheat gluten from China. The investigators found melamine in it. Melamine is an organic base compound made from urea, and used in a wide variety of products ranging from floor treatments to plastic utensils.
Surly this is an isolated incident right? Well actually no, and it shows how vulnerable our food chain is. Worse, how about our pharmaceuticals? We scream we want cheap drugs from Canada or Mexico, but what about the ingredients used in those countries? The New York Times has a great article that I think every American should read. We need to not compromise quality for price. If you depend on big corporations to keep you safe or worry about the consequences for their actions, after you read this article tell me what the difference is between wheat gluten contamination and glycerin knock offs.
