James Cameron has decided to try and punch holes in the Christians’ belief of Jesus’s resurrection and ascension to Heaven. He is using a tomb that was found more than 10 years ago in Jerusleum that he claims to be the tomb of Jesus. The tomb was found to not be that that of Jesus more than 10 years ago, but in that Hollywood style of ignoring facts, he is trying to make people believe it was. He also has claimed there is no physical proof, other than the Bible, of Jesus’s existence, but he is wrong again.

There are numerous writings of first hand accounts of Jesus’s life which are not in the Bible. You can find a list of many early Christian writings HERE. There are also writings outside of early Christian writings which record the existence of Jesus, Pilate and others. For one there is a inscription called the Pilate Inscription you can read HERE. Another from the Jewish historian Josephus told of his life, death and resurrection. Josephus was not a Christian and was, in fact, very critical of Christians. You can read his “Description of Jesus” HERE.

In 115 C.E. the Roman historian Tactitus, a hater of Christians, wrote about the persecution of the Early Christians by Nero in his historical document the Annals:

Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular. Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing the city, as of hatred against mankind. Mockery of every sort was added to their deaths. Covered with the skins of beasts, they were torn by dogs and perished, or were nailed to crosses, or were doomed to the flames and burnt, to serve as a nightly illumination, when daylight had expired. Nero offered his gardens for the spectacle, and was exhibiting a show in the circus, while he mingled with the people in the dress of a charioteer or stood aloft on a car. Hence, even for criminals who deserved extreme and exemplary punishment, there arose a feeling of compassion; for it was not, as it seemed, for the public good, but to glut one man’s cruelty, that they were being destroyed.

Why would thousands of people be willing to endure such torture for only a myth?

After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to over five hundred people on multiple occasions. Jesus talked and ate with them. They not only saw Jesus, but also touched Him.

After Jesus’ death, His followers were frightened and discouraged. They hid in fear of the authorities. After Jesus rose from the dead, they experienced a radical change in both attitude and behavior. They were transformed from being timid, discouraged, and frightened men into bold, optimistic, and fearless apostles of Jesus. It is inconceivable that they would have lied about the resurrection of Jesus when their testimony not only cost them greatly, but they had nothing to gain personally.

In the media and in science, theories and purported facts are applied to the wonders of God and they use their human intelligence to try and put God in a box, but they always fall short. Honestly, who really cares if Jesus was married? Who cares if He had children. What if His Spirit went to heaven, and His flesh and bones remained behind? None of this goes to disprove that Jesus was what we believe He is. Sure, there are some sects of Christianity and Catholicism that would fervently disagree with what I am saying, but does it really matter? I get tired of Hollywood trying to pull apart the fabric of humanity to further their own goals.

There is a cryptic verse in some of the Gospels that demonstrates the complexity of Jesus resurrection. In John 20:10-18 Mary Magdalene, the purported wife of Jesus according to Cameron, is standing at tomb of Jesus mourning the loss. She looks inside the tomb and instead of Jesus, she sees two angels sitting at the head and feet where Jesus’ body should have been. When she asked the angels where Jesus was, she turned around to see a man she didn’t recognize, she thought he was a gardener. She asked him if he had taken Jesus body away so she could retrieve it for burial. The gardener said to her, “Mary” she instantly recognized the voice. 16 “She turned towards him and cried out in Aramaic, Rabboni! (which means teacher). 17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father (Note - in some other translations he uses the term, “I am not yet finished”). Go instead to my brothers and tell them, I am returning to my Father, and your Father, to my God and your God. 18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that He had said these things to her.

Christians and non-Christians need to pay attention to the things that matter, and not focus on the things that don’t. There are many mysteries in the Bible, and trying to apply normal human thought to them is useless. There is absolutely NOTHING that Cameron can present that will change my firm and unwavering belief that Jesus is the Son of God, died on the Cross for the sins of the world, and on the third day was resurrected and at Pentecost he ascended into Heaven and is alive with God.

I’m not sure I’ll have the opportunity to see his documentary but I’m always interested in alternative viewpoints.

It is pointless for anyone in my opinion to argue whether Christ existed as there are volumes of supporting accounts….including the Gnostic Gospels which completely contradict the Bible in almost every way except that they confirm many of the details of his life which are also in the Bible.

I don’t think Mary Magdalene’s role has been completely accurately portrayed in historical documents which is something I find entirely irritating.

In any case, a true faith cannot be bent by anyone’s opinion. The reality is that none of the recent claims about his life can ever be supported or disproven but you know Hollywood…whatever’s good for the bottom line.

P.S. Did you see the Malkin article re Pam Anderson’s Ugg boots? LOL you’d appreciate it ;)

    Daydreamer,

Sorry I haven’t had the chance to write you back. It got really hectic over here and is just starting to calm down. I agree that debate is always good, whether it be war or religion. What I don’t agree with is doing it for the only reason of making money, or instead of saying this is a theory, instead of a fact as Cameron claimed.

I also think that Mary Magdalene played a larger role in Jesus’s ministry. She was apparently very wealthy and some believe she was probably the main source of funding for Jesus’s ministry on earth.

Thanks for the great comments again, sorry it took me 3 days to write back.

    Peace

    Daydreamer,

Wow, I thought I lost ya as a reader. Sorry I haven’t been around for the past few days. The project I have been working on lost all it’s funding, so I have been scrambling to get new funds. Also I read that MM blog about Pam Anderson’s boots. What a frickin hypocrite.

She is a joke as is the rest of PETA.
